Football season is upon us. I love being around this game and coaching it. For a long time I had dreamed of making an honest career out of coaching, but I think at my age and with my responsibilities, I'm best suited for being around my son and coaching FB with him. I'm actually having a blast. We have a great team and I'm really looking forward to the season.
I'm currently coaching the defense for our 9 year old "A" team. The great thing about this is that these kids, as long as they live in the area, will grow up playing together on the same team every year through high school (that is, of course, unless they get recruited away). The coaching staff we have is very knowledgeable and our parental support is amazing.
Caiden BARELY made weight to be able to play a "skill" position. He actually barely made weight a year ago, so it's kind of funny to think he has only gained a couple of pounds in a year, but he's definitely grown taller. He'll be playing TE and DE (or outside linebacker). He's made great improvements from last year and is doing a very good job. I'm very proud of him.

And he gets beaned again
As I mentioned in my previous post, Caiden get's beaned a lot. Today he was 2 for 2......getting beaned, not with hits.
# 1
# 2 - This one I guess counted as an RBI?? I don't know how they work those stats in baseball, but the bases were loaded and he got beaned.
It's cool that he can take one for the team, but the kid has to develop some reflexes.

Caiden and baseball

This is Caiden's first year with the Kearns baseball program and somewhat his first year of fast pitch baseball. Two years ago he played in a league with 6-8 year olds that was fast pitch and he was of the younger kids, so he did not hit too well. They changed their rules the following year to do machine-pitch only and he had close to a .700 batting average. A lot of the kids in this league still struck out at the machine, but caiden could hit anything over the plate.
This year he's back to fast pitch and besides being walked, he has only gotten on base with a hit once or twice, but he's learning.
He also gets beaned a lot. This one had him beaned on his right elbow, BEHIND him.
Here is the marks left from the baseball on his elbow

Here is a video of him scoring a run off his teammates grand slam

Coaching with integrity
On occasion I follow my local hometown newspaper, the sacramento bee, to see how some of the local HS sports teams are doing. Over the past few years Sacramento HS, which is considered an "inner city" school has had a coach named Derek Swafford, whom I've read articles on over the past few years. He took this school from shambles and made them into state contenders every year.
He started with setting ground rules and following them to a "T". There was one season where they were deep in the state playoffs and he benched their star player for missing a class. They lost a close game in which if their star player was playing, he could have been the X-factor in winning. The coach didn't waver in his decision and basically stated that they have other players on the team that could have and should have stepped up.
Well, he's at it again. I read this article in the bee and here is the short summary of what he did. Now, it's only early in the season for their team, so it's not the same as a playoff game, but it's so refreshing to see a coach actually stick to his rules.
Sac High suspends 10 players.
Sacramento High School boys basketball coach Derek Swafford confirmed that 10 players were suspended for Thursday's nonleague game at Fairfield for violating team and school rules.
"They did something stupid over the (Christmas) break that I didn't approve of," Swafford said. "It's a one-game deal. We've dealt with it and moved on."
Swafford brought three players up from the junior varsity to join the five remaining varsity players for the Fairfield game, which the No. 3 Dragons lost 74-53 to fall to 9-5. He said the suspended players will be reinstated for tonight's Metro Conference opener at Grant and will play against Skyline of Oakland in Saturday's Father Kelly Tribute at Jesuit.
Neither Swafford nor Sac High athletic director Justin Gatling would say what rules the players violated. But Gatling said those involved also were suspended from school Tuesday.
Gatling said the 10 players also were suspended for last Saturday's game at Reno High School, but that inclement weather also factored into the decision to forfeit the noon contest.
Some people have criticized him for being too harsh on these kids. They say his rules are way over the top compared to most other schools. I beg to differ. In this generation of "me-first", it's about time someone step up say that you will be rewarded for how hard you work and for the effort you put in and not rewarded for being an idiot.
I would like to hope that as a Head Coach of a program, I would act with the same integrity of this guy. I've always read nothing but good things about him. He's a great educator and from what I hear, a great coach.

Coaching Hats
So, I'm currently coaching two teams, the East high Sophomore teams (offensive coordinator) and Caiden's Kearns Gremlins (defensive coordinator). I wear two different hats (literally) at each game. It's a lot of work and time, but it's fun too.
So far my Sophomore team is 3-1. We won our last game 48-20 last week. It seems all impressive to be winning that well, but I can't really take much credit. I call the plays on offense and I hope the kids execute them. We do, however, have a few amazing athletes on the team who also start on Varsity. One is our QB, who is only allowed to play one half of our games so he's not too banged up for the Varsity game (he plays defense on Varsity). This kid is absolutely amazing and very responsible for our good record. Passing the football he's 9-12 for 298 yards and 3 TD's with no interceptions. However, that is not the most impressive. Running the ball he's carried it 20 times for 371 yards and 5 TD's. That means the dude averages over 18 yards per carry! He's a VERY good kid and works his tail off, so he's very deserving of how well he's played.

They let 1 coach on the field for this age group (8-9 year olds).

Here are some pictures of Caiden's last game (he's # 4):

I was actually quite proud. This is perfect blocking form.

Busier than I thought I would be
So, I've been pretty busy since Bailey was born, especially with it being Football season. She came on the second day of two-a-days, which somehow made me only miss one practice (a morning session). Alene was so good about allowing me to run off and tend to those duties.
I'm so thankful that I have a job that provides paternity leave. I get 1 week off for every year I've been with the company. I've been with them for 10 years, so you do the math.
Before the basement flood, I imagined my paternity leave days being filled with mountain biking in the mornings and lounging around catching up on sleep. It's been the exact opposite, but I honestly wouldn't want it any other way.
Anyway, Coaching is going well. I call the offense for the team this year, which is a different thing for me, being that I've been a defensive coordinator for the past 6 years I've coached. Our team is 1-1. We lost our first game 12-18 due to some bad turnovers by our RB's (3 fumbles), however one of the RB's ended up rushing for 274 yards and 2 TD's. Our second game was fun because we were down 6-20 at halftime, but in the second half we were able to use 4 of our sophomores that play up on Varsity (they are only allowed to play 1/2 of the Soph game, so we picked the second half). We ended up coming from behind to win 34-27 with these guys helping us out. They all start on the Varsity right now, so you can say it's a little disadvantage, but they're all still legitimate sophomores, so no skin off our back. We have a huge rivalry game with Highland this week. We have 6 kids that formerly played at Highland in their little league program, so it will be fun to see how that pans out.
Here is what my average day is like:
7am (ish) get up and get Caiden up, showered, and help him pick out clothes for school. Make his lunch and get him some breakfast.
8am (ish), lounge around with Alene and Bailey. Check email, waste time surfing the net. Prepare stuff for football (re-do depth chart, plan practice for that day, make notes on things that need to be improved)
9/10am to 1pm (ish) Work on the basement and try to get it ready. So far I have all the rooms sheetrocked and ready for paint except for the laundry room (not a big area) and the main room, which IS a big area, but should be easy.
2pm, leave for practice. Try to stay sane dealing with 34, 15 year olds
5:30pm, leave practice and head to Caiden's practice (which I'm an assistant coach on his team) which has already started
6-7:30pm, help coach 21, 8-9 year olds, which is even harder than the 15 year olds.
A couple of times a week I don't work on the basement and just go into work. I have to check in a couple of times as well as be available via my cell phone and the email I get on it.
Friday's can be even crazier because I'm at practice from 2:30 to 5, then break for dinner, then at the Varsity game from 6pm to 10pm or so. Saturday's are filled with Caiden's FB games and BYU FB games. There isn't a weekend this fall that is available until the end of November. It's hectic, but I LOVE it.
Anyway, it is a blast, but I feel bad for the time Alene and I don't have. She is very good about it, but it is hard for her too. I know she wants to support me, but it isn't easy.
We were able to take some time out on Saturday night and go to a drive-in movie with Bailey. We had the truck bed all decked out and cozy. It was a ton of fun and I look forward to doing it again, and next time I'll remember to get pictures.

Man, I miss Chris Farley
I think I'll miss him most because he reminds me so much of myself at times. This is a great commercial and is likely exactly how it would be for me if I were to try to "re-enact" the actual shot that Laettner made to win the game.
For those not familiar with what he was trying to re-enact, here is the real shot that was made.

Football is in the air......
I'm getting very excited about this coming FB season. First, Alene and I have tickets to all the BYU home games. Second, I'm coaching at the High School level this year (it's been a long time since...). And Third, work is gradually beginning to get back to normal and slow down a bit from all the ruckus of the construction we've been doing.
One more week and we start conditioning practice at the High School. I'm anxious to see what kids show up, which kids will actually make it (academically) and how quickly they'll learn the new offense we'll be teaching them. One thing I do know, I'm going to be pretty busy and I could not do it without the help and support of Alene. Thanks baby.

Went to the Skiiing World Cup Freestyle competition last night
Alene, Caiden, and I met up with April and Bill (Alene's sister) and a couple of their friends. We specifically watched the Mens freestyle jumping. These are the dudes that come barreling down the mountain, hit a huge vertical ramp, do about 50 twists and flips 50' - 60' in the air, then attempt to land. The 2nd guy we saw attempt was from Russia. He by far got the highest out of anyone during the day, but he landed flat on his back, slid down the hill, then laid there un-conscious. It was almost sick-looking. They had to get him on a stretcher and haul him off. I have no idea how he is doing now.
I wish there was as site like photobucket that would allow me to up-load video so I could show some clips of some of the jumps these dudes stuck. They were absolutely amazing.
Anyway, here are some pictures of the days events:
Me and Caiden walking up the mountain to the event

Here is a random dude jumping

This is the view from where we were at, looking down on Deer Valley (which is in Park City)

I was actually entered in the competition, but I broke one of my bangs, so I couldn't compete. I got interviewed by the press though, so that was cool. (yeah, my eyes are red, I swear I didn't make a deal with the devil....I swear!)

More airtime. This is me describing my trajectory when I broke my bangs

This is the view of the area on the way up later that night. The moguls are straight ahead and the freestyle jumping is to the right (that is the hill they land on)

Alene and I standing in front of the area where the jumpers land. It was cool because they had a HUGE TV (you can see it on the top left hand side) for everyone to see the jumpers up on the mountain before they came down. It followed them all the way to the ramp, then you could see them come flipping over it

I went snowboarding on Monday
Went with Alene, her sister April, her Brother Brian, and her Cousin Joey. It started to snow right as we arrived. I normally don't care if it's snowing when I board, but the snow was HARD and it pelted your face as you picked up speed. It made it somewhat miserable and my beard froze a few times :-). In addition to that, my board needed to be waxed badly. It was so bad that I'd get some good speed going down a hill, then it would feel like someone was literally pulling me down from behind. Not good. I got my board waxed yesterday, so hopefully that will help.

Vegas Trip
I went to Las Vegas with Alene and my parents on December 21, 22, and came home on the 23rd. We went to see BYU play Cal in the Las Vegas bowl. BYU lost, but put up a good point, losing by one TD and being in position to score a tying TD with around 1:30 left in the game, but our QB was hit as he threw a pass and it was intercepted. It was fun while it lasted I guess.
Vegas is alright. I've been there about five times and every time I go, I'm reminded why I don't care for it much. I mean, it's cool and all the lights are definitely exciting to see, but it kind of wears off after a while. The best part about our trip was our excursion out to Red Rock canyon, which is west of the city.
The bellagio had this cool set-up in their garden room that had this fountain full of cranberries (it's behind us).

Yeah, don't let this happen to YOU!

Reggie Bush is amazing
I watched most of the USC-UCLA game last saturday and that dude single-handedly destroyed any chance of UCLA making it a game. He plays like he's able to break everything down in slow motion and take advantage of the situation.
Here is a picture of him jumping over someone. Someone on Cougarboard said this should be the new Heisman pose (so, would that mean the award would now be the "Bush" award?)

Anyway, I'm excited for a guy like this to be as amazing as he is. He's a very good person that is very focused on what he does. He's not a trouble maker or a loud-mouth like some of the people you get from college to the NFL. He is a team player and will do anything a coach asks of him. He's going to have a great NFL career.

Highs and Lows from the weekend
First, the Low:
My 8th grade team lost their championship game 20-21. Very hard to lose that way. As I mentioned before the team we were playing owns the record for the longest winning streak of any team in this league (38 games straight). They average around 35-40 points per game and usually pitch a shut-out. They've NEVER had 3 TD's scored on them in one game before. We lost to them earlier in the season 7-6.
Here are some frustrating facets of the game:
1. We moved the ball on them at will. It took us a couple of series to figure it out, but we got it down.
2. Our defense shut them down (for the most part). It took them a botched punt (snapper snapped the ball over our punters head, Judge recovers on our own two yard line and scores on the next play), a Play-action pass that went for 40 yards, and a trick play (more on that later) to beat us.
3. The Trick play: Their players all get set, but the center doesn't put his hands on the ball. His linemen just stand in their position, but not with their hands down (so they look like they're resting). The center yells back to his QB that they have the wrong ball, the QB tells the center to give him the ball, so the center, takes the ball and slowly turns around and hands it to the QB. The QB starts lightly jogging to the sidelines saying "we have the wrong ball", then once he get's outside our defenders, he takes off down-field for a 60 yard TD run.
4. We get the ball back with 4 minutes left and drive down to their end zone (at this point, we're down 14-21. With 50 seconds left, we have a 4th and goal from the 7 yard line. We run a toss sweep to our best player and he scores (barely). As he get's up and runs to hand the ball to the ref, he holds the ball high and the refs flag him for unsportsmanlike conduct. 10 yard penalty. This puts us at the 12 yard line to go for one, so I say screw it, we're going for two points and went for it from the 15 yard line. We run a pass play where our best WR runs a corner route, the pass is perfect, our WR turns at the goal line with tight coverage on him, and he drops the ball. If we score, we go up by one and the game is over (becuase no way judge was going to get the ball back and score on us with less than 50 seconds left). Our onside attempt failed and the game was over.
5. Our players worked so hard to get to this point. We've had 4 losses this season, all by one point. We've never been blown out, we've only beaten ourselves in our losses.
Anyway, can't look back. I have these kids for one more year, then they move onto Sophmore football. I love working with these kids so much. They all have such great personalities and have made my work with them feel important. I really hope these kids know how much I love them.
The High: BYU beat Wyoming and Utah lost to New Mexico. I'm not a big "cheer for Utah to lose" person, because I sincerely think that them winning is good for the conference and for the state of Utah, but I find it very hard to cheer for them. When they play and lose, I feel nothing, when they play and win, I feel nothing, but sometimes have a feeling of joy knowing their fanbase is about to collectively slit their wrists. Utah lost to New Mexico, but that isn't all; they also lost their starting QB and starting WR to season-ending injuries. Utah's season is in turmoil while BYU is on the rise. (sorry to any of my "Utah fan" friends that read my blog; you know I love you and am only concerned for your well-being as Utah fans) :-).
BYU beat Wyoming AT Wyoming, which is nothing but a bunch of overly drunken college students mixed with a bunch of in-bread hicks that never finished Jr. High School. They are famous for such things as "piss bombs", breaking vehicle windows that display BYU stickers on them, and starting fights with the other team's fans (and this time, players).
One funny story coming out of the weekend was BYU's 6'1" 210 lbs Safety, KC Bills, getting a concussion toward the end of the game. As he was being helped off the field when the game was over, a group of drunken students came over and started heckling him, raising their middle fingers right in his face. Being in a concussed state, he reacted with a closed fist to the dudes face, leveling him to the ground. The dude then complained about it to security as the security laughed at him. I would honestly pay LOT'S of money to have been there to see that happen.
Anyway, life has been a blur for me since August first. Coaching takes a lot of your time and energy. I am greatful for the opportunity and for the support Alene and Caiden have given me while coaching. We have just a couple more things to do with the boys (a banquet and we're taking them snowmobiling for making it to the championship game) and then the winter is here.
Speaking of, I can't wait to go snowboarding. Caiden is more stoked than I am. He is so proud of his new snowboard gear. I hope he catches onto it soon enough to be able to ride w/o my help. I'll try to spend as much time up there with him as I can this year. I think I'm going to put him in one of those "kiddie" classes, where they are good at teaching little kids how to do it.
Anyway, that is about it.

Crazy dream, my son, stuff........
I had a crazy dream late into my sleeping mode last night. I dreamed that the night before my FB game (this coming weekend) that my ball box (I have a ball box, as opposed to a ball bag) was stolen, along with all my plays and my footballs. I showed up to the game 20 minutes before it started and everyone was looking at me like I was a big loser. All the parents were upset that I was not there 2 hrs before as I said I would be and I they were yelling at me. We lost the game and I was a disgrace. Then I woke up feeling like a loser. I took a shower and started to ding around, then remembered that Caiden was at the house and his school started in 20 minutes! We had to get ready quickly, plus I had to do his hair becuase it was picture day.
Anyway, we were kind of in a hurry, but only got to school 10 minutes late. He's so cute. There are times when he is still totally my baby boy, then other times he tries so hard to act like he's in charge and a responsible adult. However, when he gets to school he already starts to act like he doesn't need me. He'll give me a hug, but he used to put his head on my shoulder when he did it, as though he was looking for comfort. Now he just hugs me, then pulls away pretty quickly, taking note if anyone is looking. It's weird, but I always said I wanted to be a cool parent. I have to now think back to what it was like when I was his age and remember the things that embarassed me and the things that I thought were cool, for Caiden's sake. As much as I want him to be able to carve his own niche in life, there are still things that can affect his personality and the kids at his age can be so cruel and brutal.
Anyway, in the past (when he was late), I would park my truck, take him to the office, then walk him to his class. Now I just take him to the office and let him go to his class himself. He looks so small and vulnerable walking down those big hallways with his backpack that is half his size on his back. As he walked away today, I watched him walk down the long hallway and as he walked, he peered into every classroom he passed by and quickly looked back at or toward everyone he passed. He looked so innocent and almost in awe of his surroundings. He's learning so much too.
I love my son so much.
I also love my wife. She is so understanding and loving. I love that the most important thing to her in her life is her relationship with me. She tries so hard to make that a priority and I don't do enough to show that it is important to me as well. I love her so much it hurts.
Anyway, stuff.
Oh yeah, for my last playoff game (that we won) and this coming game, I put together scouting reports for my players. This usually consisted of a 4-page report that I prepared for the kids detailing the opposing teams best players, their defensive sets, their offensive plays, any new stuff we're adding to our offensive and defensive schemes, and some notes of motivation. As I was going over it with the kids (I made a copy for each of my 21 players), a guy named Pete was standing by listening in (appearantly he wanted to "suggest" a play to me that he has used in the past). Pete has been a coach in this conference for over 20 years and has had lot's of kids play in it. He's a firey guy and typically the type of guy I don't like, but I tolerated him and what he wanted to suggest adding to our play book. It was a pretty good play and we may use it, but we'll have to see how the game dictates it.
Anyway, he made a nice compliment to me about my scouting report, saying it's the most detailed report he's ever seen in his 20 years coaching on either the little league or the HS level. That was nice of him. I do take pride in my scouting reports. I think it's important that my players are as mentally prepared as they are physically prepared.
I've been waivering on being really nervous for this upcoming game, then I start to put it in perspective with life in general (it's just a game) and I calm down and start to think of how fun the opportunity will be. Then I start to make the perspective a little smaller and I think of how important it is for my kids that they have the opportunity to win a championship and beat a team that has won a record 38 games.
Oh well. We have practice tonight to plan some more. Should be fun.

We won our first playoff game!!
It was a good weekend for me. My 8th grade team posted a shut-out win in our first round play-off game 19-0. We got beat by this team earlier in the season 21-20. This was a team that scored on a kickoff return and two deep passes. Other than that they could not do anything else. I think they completed two passes against us, but they were actually able to run it a bit better than they had in the past.
The team we are playing was playing on an opposite field and finished before we did. Right after our win, they sat down in the corner of our field hooting and hollering at us, as though they were excited to play us. My boys did the same, but in order to keep peace, I calmed them down and had them go shake hands with the other team.
Here is a dillema for this week. Our head coach left on a planned trip to Hawaii, so this means I'm going to be calling the offense. I don't think I'll have a major problem, but it's been a while since I've called an offense.
This team we are playing (Judge Memorial, a private catholic school that can recruit players from other districts) has won 38 straight games. When we played them earlier this season we lost to them 7-6 (missed our XP) so they know they're in for a challenge. Should be a good game.
I'm so thankful Alene has been willing and able to video tape every game this year. I have been able to scout Judge better based off our last game with them.

Saturday was a good day
Holy crap, where do I begin. I guess I'll go in chronological order.
1. My 8th grade FB team won their game and made it to the play-offs. We beat Taylorsville 33-12. Taylorsville has an AMAZING RB that returned a KO for a TD and ran for a long TD as well. On his long TD run, we had him stuffed in the backfield, then he broke free and busted around the corner for paydirt. After that we were able to shut him down, but it was still scarry to see him with the ball in his hands.
In addition to this good news, Bountiful beat Granger. We were hoping for this because it would put us in 3rd place in the conference and set up a revenge game in the 1st round for us. We lost to Bountiful 20-19 when they scored off a 4th and long pass with about 1 minute left. We dominated them, but it was one of those games where the score didn't indicate it. They scored off a KO return and two deep passes. They could not move the ball on us other than that. I've since made changes to our personel and no one has been able to throw on us since, so I don't anticipate Bountiful doing it.
2. Got home and watched BYU slaughter Air Force 62-41. BYU was actually killing them, but AFA put in a different QB and he started throwing the ball against us (our biggest weakness is our pass defense) and started scoring a lot of their points in the 4th quarter (21 I believe). Anyway, it was good to see the Cougs dominate. Their RB (Curtis Brown) rushed for over 200 yards with 4 TD's and their QB (John Beck) had 383 yards passing and 3 TD's. He also had one pick. The sad thing about a lot of Beck's picks are that I'd guess about 5 of his 11 picks have been tipped by his own receivers. Take away those tips and he's got the same stats as USC's Matt Leinart.
3. We celebrated Caiden's BD (for the 2nd time) with his cousins and other family members at the house. It is so fun seeing him enjoy those times and the looks on his face when he opens his presents. Alene and I got him a snowboard, a game for his X-box, and an interactive Spiderman game (he puts gloves on and something around his leg and he can control spidermans moves ,as he moves, on the TV as he fights). On Thursday (a couple of days before) we went to play lazer tag with Caiden's friend James. It was a blast and I had more fun than I thought I would have.
Here are some pictures from Caiden's party:

4. Went to a halloween party at my brothers house. I'm going to post some pictures, but leave the ones of Alene out. She thinks she looks phat. I disagree, but I'll respect her wishes.
Here is a picture of Bobby, Alana, and Krystal. Bobby is a ute fan Arrrrrrrgh!

Here is my mom and dad as Mark Anthony and Cleopatra.

Here is Amanda and Brock as Princess Vespa and Lonestar (or was it Princess Leia and Han Solo??)

Here is Janna and Troy as Vampires.

And last, but not least, here I am. I didn't dress up for the party (I know, call me a party-pooper).

I spent a good part of Sunday working on the highlight video I'm making for my FB team. I've got about 2 more games to add to it before it's finished. I also might try to add our play-off games to it, but we'll see if we have time.

My team won again this weekend
We beat the 2nd place team (Granger) 20-13 (we're currently in 4th place and just need to win our last game to remain in 4th place to make the play-offs). We always start off sluggish, then get things figured out and usually shut the other team down.
We came out on defense and allowed their fastest guy to get behind our DB's on a fake sweep-pass. After that, the defense shut them down. They scored their other TD off a 25 yd Int return (that was on the next series after their first TD). After being down 13-0, our offense kicked it in gear and we scored on some good drives, capped off by two long runs by our stud RB and a play-action pass to our TE who was WIDE open.
That was a good day, then BYU decided to get spanked by Notre Dame. However, BYU played pretty good. I knew going in that our offense would have to match their offense or we would lose. Both BYU and Notre Dames defenses are horrible. ND scored SIX TD's passing (set a school record) and passed for over 400 yards. ND had two 6'5" WR's that just dominated our 6' and 5'7" corners. It was sad. What is even sadder was that some of the TD's they got from these guys were WIDE OPEN. Our DB's would bite on a run fake, while the ND WR's were running down-field.
Anyway, I'm over it. I think BYU can still win their next four games.
Caiden's BD is this Thursday. I think we're going to take him to play Lazer Tag. He should like that. We are also having a party here for him this weekend.

I feel cursed
We lost another game by ONE POINT today. Again, we killed ourselves.
We're now 3-3. All three losses were by one point. Two of those 3 losses we shut down their team COMPLETELY, except both of those teams returned a KO for a TD and threw two desperation passes for a TD.
Today was crazy. We were up 20-14 and there was one minute left. 4th and 12 from the 25 yard line. I called a cloud coverage, which drops my two OLB's back to help with the pass (and puts 5 guys deep to help defend the pass). The QB is in a shotgun about 7 yards deep. He takes the snap and throws the ball deep to the left corner. One WR is down there. My corner is covering him tight, both my OLB and my FS come over to help. As the ball get's closer, I have 3 of my defenders on their one WR. Their one WR somehow comes down with the catch and falls into the end zone. Tied game. They convert the XP and it's pretty much over. We didn't run the Kick off back for good field position and a few penalties killed us. Game is over.
I felt like I was in the twilight zone.
To top it off, they got in that position to score that TD because of a botched punt snap that went over our punters head and out of the end zone for a safety. That gave them the easy two points to take pressure off them. They get their safety, then we kick to them and they get a chance to put the ball in the end zone on that desperation throw.
Man, I'm mentally drained right now.
I'm going to have to make some changes on the defense now. I'm putting my two tallest, fastest guys at Corner. I have to do it for the sake of the team. I have some smaller guys with a lot of heart that have been playing there, but I can't afford to keep them there.
