Back in the saddle again

It's been almost 10 years since I've coached football at the high school level and today is the first official day of practice. It should be fun getting back in the groove of things.

I want to say "thanks, and I love you" to Alene for the support and encouragement she's offered me in doing this. I know it's a HUGE sacrifice.

Are you ready for some football?

This video hit me pretty hard

I saw it posted on Cougarboard while I was at work and could not keep the tears back. I have no idea if it's a parents love for their children or what, but I cannot imagine being gone from my loved ones, especially Alene and Caiden, in a war that seems to have no end in sight. This father must be a very good father in order to make his 6 year old son jump up and cry without worrying about what his peers think of him.

This got me thinking about the love we have for our children. Alene and I discuss many times about spoiling Caiden (and our future children). I often times want so much for him to know he's loved that I catch myself going over-board. I understand that I don't have to buy him things to make him feel loved and I really don't think I buy him everything he wants, but I do sometimes get things that he doesn't necessarily need. I don't want our children to be spoiled, but it's crazy how as a parent, you'll un-knowingly make so many sacrifices (spoils even) for their sake because of how much love you have for them.

I cannot wait to have children with Alene and experience what it's like to have love for more than one child. Not that I want to love Caiden less, I just don't know what it feels like. I often wonder how it is that my parents made each of us feel so special and so loved.

My cadaver value

Thanks to Ry Ry, I've discovered what my cadaver is worth. Not too shabby.

Football is in the air......

I'm getting very excited about this coming FB season. First, Alene and I have tickets to all the BYU home games. Second, I'm coaching at the High School level this year (it's been a long time since...). And Third, work is gradually beginning to get back to normal and slow down a bit from all the ruckus of the construction we've been doing.

One more week and we start conditioning practice at the High School. I'm anxious to see what kids show up, which kids will actually make it (academically) and how quickly they'll learn the new offense we'll be teaching them. One thing I do know, I'm going to be pretty busy and I could not do it without the help and support of Alene. Thanks baby.

Singing to Yanni

For most people that REALLY know me, they'll know that I have a guilty pleasure of listening to Yanni when I want to relax or calm down. People laugh at me and think it's hilarious (It's NOT! In fact, it's pretty un-funny!) However, I had to laugh at myself when I saw Ed Helms (Daily Show, The Office) stating that he too loves Yanni as a guilty pleasure and even goes to the extreme to add lyrics of his own to the songs.

OK, I have to come clean

The "braces off post" below is a hoax. They're still on (un-fortunately). I've surprisingly tricked a few people into believing that they're my real teeth. If my teeth were that white, I'd never need a flashlight when camping again.

Alene and I did a wicked hike on Sunday

We went up Little Cottonwood Canyon all the way to Alta. Rode a shuttle up another 2.5 miles on a dirt road and then did a 6+ mile hike up over to the Brighton resort (the end of Big Cottonwood canyon) and around various lakes. It has been a long time since we've done a hike this long, so it was quite nice, despite the fact that I'm extremely out of shape and kept slowing Alene down. She's so amazing and fit.

Here is the list of pictures:

Family trip to Joes Valley

We had a great family trip to Joes Valley a week ago. I think it's the first time the whole family has been able to be together camping. I wished it would have lasted longer.

We spent time boating (wake board/water skiing), jumping off the rock cliffs, fishing, and lounging around the campground. What a great time.

Here is the link to pictures. I'm creating a video slideshow of the trip (like Jeff did) and I'll post that later.

I FINALLY got my braces off

The Free teeth whitening was the best part in my opinion. I'd recommend Utah Orthodonic Care to anyone.

The only drawback is that my teeth feel really slimy and I keep salivating all over Alene. She's used to it, but it's more excessive than normal now.

Russ' movie

We started shooting Russ' full-length film at his house this past weekend. We went early into the morning on both Friday night and Saturday night (I'm still tired). Check out the pictures:

I have too many shoes

I went looking under my bead for some flip-flop sandals and I ended up pulling out every pair of shoes I have. I'm going to get rid of some of these as no man should have 16 pairs of footware.
